Our program begins with a five step assessment, which will help
identify
those at risk for falls, and help prevent them.
Treatment will consist of
appropriate patient education, gait training, low-impact
strengthening and
flexibility exercises, endurance exercise, and balance training
in static
and dynamic positions
The
balance training and fall prevention program is a critical intervention
for our patients. We will identify and address key physical factors
which increase risk for falls including: lower extremity muscle
weakness, painful and/or unstable joints, limited range of motion and
flexibility, impaired sensation in the lower extremities, and loss of
coordination as a result of a stroke or degenerative/ neurological
disease.
