Thomas
Cooney, PT, MS
Tom
is co-founder of Physical Therapy Associates of Schenectady in 1982.
He holds a BS in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College and a Masters
Degree in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Administration from
Russell Sage. He is currently attending Russell Sage Doctoral in
Physical Therapy Program.
Tom plays racquetball for fun and in tournaments. He is an Am Pro
Certified Racquetball teacher and avid (fanatic) New England Patriots
fan, with season tickets. Claims to be a “hacker” at golf.
Married to the former Heidi Cook in 1982 and is the father of sons
Ryan (17) and Jacob (16).
Nicholas
J. Ciotoli, PTA, CProT
Nick graduated from Maria College in 1978 with an Associate degree in
Physical Therapy, he was employed at Ellis Hospital for a total of 7
years, 1978 through 1985 and joined Physical Therapy Associates of
Schenectady, P.C. in January of ‘86 through the present time. In 2001 he
became a Certified Personal Trainer (CProT). He is a Spine Care
Instructor, CPR Certified and runs the Return to Work Program.
Jan
Houghtalen
Jan was born and raised in Westfield,
Massachusetts and graduated from Russell Sage College with a B.S. in
Physical Education. She worked as an assistant manager of a health club in
Massachusetts for a year before working in sales for General Foods, 3M
Industrial Specialties Division and Macaran-Custom Labels.
She enjoys yoga,
reading and golf. works at the Wellness Center
in Scotia, New York.
Marianne
E. Vrobel, PT
Marianne received her BS in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College
in 1989 and has focused her post-graduate continuing education courses
in orthopedics and sports physical therapy. Marianne has received
advanced training in the McKenzie approach to spinal evaluation and
treatment. She is a member of the Ergonomics team of Physical Therapy
Associates and is certified by ErgoScience for administration and
interpretation of Functional Work Capacity Evaluations.

Kathleen holds a B.S. in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College
(1985). She has become and APTA Certified Clinical Instructor and
advanced her training with McKenzie Part A-Lumbar Spine for Spinal
Evaluation and Management. She has also taken specializing in Geriatrics
and Orthopedics.

Shelley Smith, MS, PT
Shelley received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Hartwick College in
1996. She played both intercollegiate Field Hockey and Lacrosse for 4
years. She completed her masters degree in Physical therapy at Boston
University in 1999. She started her career in 1999 with Physical Therapy
Associates of Schenectady. She currently manages the Amsterdam office.
Shelley enjoys running, competing in tennis, and most outdoor
activities.
Kevin Mc Laughlin MS, P.T. CproT
Kevin
is a 1994 graduate of the physical therapy program at Ithaca College. He
has extensive rehabilitation experience in the treatment of orthopedic
and sports related injuries. Kevin has attended several continuing
education seminars on rehabilitation of the spine and the shoulder.
Kevin developed our Fit For Golf program. He has also been certified as
a Professional Trainer by the N.C.S.M.E. Kevin currently manages our
Rotterdam/Guilderland Office.
Kelly
Vrooman, , PT, CProT
Kelly A. Vrooman has been a physical therapist for Physical Therapy
Associates in Amsterdam since 1997. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in
Science from Ball University where she also played Division I field
hockey for four years. She then graduated from Russell Sage College with
a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy in 1995. Since that time she has
worked in the pediatric setting, and is now currently working at
Guilderland School District, specializing in neurological and orthopedic
impairments. In addition, Kelly has also been coaching high school field
hockey for 10 years, and is certified as a Professional Trainer through NCSME.

Tom is co-owner of Physical Therapy Associates of
Schenectady, P.C. He graduated from Ithaca College in 1979 with a B.S.
in Physical Therapy, and is Manual Therapy Certified by the Institute of
Physical Therapy in St. Augustine, Fl. He has gained extensive
experience over the past 20 years treating orthopedic, spine and sports
related injuries. His diverse lecture experience includes presentations
to physical therapists, physicians, businesses, patients and the
community.

Jennifer
Allen, PT
Jen holds a BS in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College. She began
working with Physical Therapy Associates in 1997. In addition to
treating patients in the clinic, Jen is a member of the Ergonomics team
and works onsite at several manufacturing companies in the area
including General Electric and Schenectady International, Inc. Jen is
certified by ErgoScience as an evaluator for Functional Capacity
Evaluations.
Liana
Colleton, PTA
Liana began her career at Physical Therapy Associates of Schenectady,
P.C. in 1992 as a Reimbursement Specialist at our Union Street location
until she graduated from Maria College in May 2000. She is now a
Physical Therapist Assistant in our Scotia facility and at our Wellness
Center.
Brian
Duquette, MS, PT
Brian graduated from Siena College in 1998 with a
bachelor of science in Biology and from New York Medical College in 2001
with a masters degree in Physical Therapy. He has been with Physical
Therapy Associates of Schenectady since May of 2001. Brian is the
Manager of our Clifton Park Office and he is also the Administrator of
our Homecare. Brian also renders care to patient’s at Kingsway Arms. He
is currently focusing his continuing education on manual physical
therapy and functional capacity evaluations.

VanAlstyne, PT
Linda
holds a BS in Occupational Therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit
MI (1973) and a BS in PT from Russell Sage College in 1989. Linda has
received advanced training in McKenzie Parts A, B, C, Spinal Evaluations
and Treatment. Certified by Ergo Science for Administration and
Interpretation of Functional Work Capacity Evaluations. Certified in
Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Evaluation and treatment.
Barbara
Burgess, PT
Barbara graduated from Russell Sage College in 1984 with a
B.S. in Physical Therapy and received her Masters in Health Service
Administration from Russell Sage Graduate School in 1992. Barbara has
advanced her training with the McKenzie Spinal Evaluation and Management
Program and with Wound Care Assessment and Treatment.
Dorinda Campano, PT
Dorinda a 1976 graduate of Ithaca College and has
been with PT Associates
for 15 years after employment at Sunnyview Hospital, University of Utah
Medical Center and Schenectady VNSA. She has worked at the Union Street
and Rotterdam Offices of PT Associates and will now be located at both
our Troy and West Sand Lake Offices.
Dennis Judd, PT, Cert MDT
Dennis has been in Physical Therapy Practice for over twenty years. He
is certified in the Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment (McKenzie)
approach to the treatment of back and neck pain, and has extensive
post-graduate training in musculoskeletal examination and treatment of
all types of orthopedic and neurological conditions. Additional post
graduate training includes the study of lower extremity biomechanics,
neural mobilization and shoulder/neck pain syndromes. Currently he is
treating orthopedic disorders at Physical Therapy Associates of
Schenectady office in Colonie. Since graduating from Ithaca College in
1979 he has presented postgraduate training in orthopedic physical
therapy in a variety of settings including both the Texas and Colorado
Physical Therapy Associations annual meetings. He specializes in the
evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal pain with special interest
in chronic neck, back and headache pain.
Dan
Carr, CPT, CES
Dan is a Certified Personal Trainer working at The Wellness Center. He
is certified through the American Council on Exercise and Aerobics &
Fitness Association of America. His fitness experience offers him the
ability to educate people in different aspects of fitness and help them
achieve “quality of life” as well as reaching their specific fitness
goals. In addition to being a Personal Trainer, Dan has a Bachelors
degree in Marketing from Western New England College and is in sales for
a promotional products company in New Jersey.
